Welcome to Wales, NY

Overview

Wales is a small town on the eastern edge of Erie County, bordered to the north by Marilla and part of Wyoming County, to the east by Wyoming County, to the south by Holland and to the west by Aurora. This town of about 3,000 residents originally was a farming community and is in a scenic area of woodlands and streams. Residents have fought for to maintain the small-town atmosphere, and development has been of the type of small, family owned businesses. The town’s motto is “Great Country Living.”

Essentials

Because of its small-town status, Wales has only a few small businesses and restaurants. For grocery shopping, there’s a Tops Friendly Markets store on Grey Street in East Aurora. The closest Wegmans supermarkets are on McKinley Parkway in Buffalo, and on Orchard Park Road in West Seneca.

Recreation & Entertainment

Small-town, outdoor activities are the norm in Wales. The Aurora Theatre is a one-screen movie house in neighboring East Aurora. Orchard Park is the home of Ralph Wilson Stadium and the Buffalo Bills pro football team. Darien Lake Theme Park, the largest amusement park in New York State, is about 25 miles northwest of here. Attica, about 22 miles northeast and in Wyoming County, holds an annual rodeo

Transportation & Traffic

Route 20A runs east-west through the northern part of Wales. Route 78 runs diagonally through the east side of town.

Pros & Cons

This is among the smaller towns in Erie County, with a distinct small-town feel. If you like wide-open, sparsely populated spaces, Wales is for you.
