Welcome to Colden, NY

Overview

Colden is a remote, small town in southern Erie County best known as home of Kissing Bridge Ski Resort. Colden is bordered to the north by Aurora, to the east by Holland, to the south by Concord and Sardinia, and to the west by Boston. Colden has a few businesses, some of which cater to the ski industry. With only about 3,000 residents, Colden has one of the smallest populations of Erie County.

Essentials

Colden is essentially a tourist area, with only a few businesses besides the seasonal ski resort. Shopping options are just a short drive away. For groceries, Colden residents head to East Aurora, only 11 miles northeast, for Tops Friendly Market. The closest Wegmans supermarket is 20 miles northwest, on McKinley Parkway in Buffalo. For retail shopping, there’s a Walmart Supercenter in Springville, 13 miles south.

Recreation & Entertainment

This is a remote, rural area, where the big attraction is Kissing Bridge Ski Resort. The other popular attractions also are of the outdoor type – hiking, camping, hunting and such. East Aurora, a charming village just north of Colden, has a one-screen movie theater. Hamburg, about 13 miles northwest of Colden, has a casino and a mall with a multiplex. The Erie County Fair is held annually at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. Orchard Park, about 12 miles north of Colden, is where the Buffalo Bills pro football team plays.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 240 passes through the southwestern part of town. Route 219, heading north-south, is just west of Colden.

Pros & Cons

A popular ski resort is in your back yard here, so this area gets lots of snow in the winter. If you enjoy wide-open space, outdoor activities like hiking and camping, and small towns, you’ll like Colden.
